Metamorphosis
Silkscreen on wood
8" x 8"

As a continuation from my previous project "Bodyscapes", I was interested in exploring more of the human body through gestural forms. Through the gesture exercises in class and the several studies, I learned about simplifying the anatomy into simple lines, shapes and forms. The human body is fluid, dynamic and ever-changing. I wanted to express this dynamism through the merging of the real and digital world, in both the medium and subject matter.

I was inspired by the wooden puzzle blocks we would play with as a kid and I wanted each individual piece of wood to take on its own shape and form but when it is placed together, it can form an entirely new image. I was also inspired by the silkscreen artist, Ryan McGinness, with the use of his abstraction of the human body. He does so in a very fun and quirky manner with some abstractions so vague, it leaves it up to the viewer's imagination to put the forms together. This was what I wanted to achieve in my designs with the soft rounded edges and fluid nature of illustrations.

Hence, the viewer is able to interact with the work by piecing the wooden blocks together or even stacking them up to create their own design. Afterwards, they can scan the design using the EyeJack application to see the morphing of shapes and forms in the digital world.
